About Me

Educator, Mother, Leader

Educator, who is committed to exploring children's curiosity, and encouraging children to follow their passions.

Mother, of two amazing children, who values integrity, enthusiasm and a sense of humour when riding life's adventures.

Leader, who understands that a growth mind-set is necessary when designing a system of education that is inclusive for all.

 Purpose

The ePortfolio is designed to be a culminating project for the MET program, and will qualify as meeting criteria for the BC Teacher Qualification Service.

The ePortfolio will demonstrate learning experiences that have occurred during my time in the MET program:

  • reflections on the impact of the learning experiences on my personal life as a parent, educator, and professional leader

  • applications of the learning that reflect who I am, as a parent, educator and leader

  • examples of learned technological apps and programs as tools to demonstrate learning of educational theories, frameworks and content which can be applied and used by others in alternate contexts.

 Audience

The audience of the ePortfolio will include present colleagues in the MET program and in the workplace, future graduates of the MET program, MET professors who will be assessing my portfolio, and future employers who may view my ePortfolio as an attachment of my resume.

The site is organized so that viewers experience a game-like experience, as gamification of learning was a topic discussed throughout many courses. Participation in discussion is also encouraged so that this ePortfolio is not solely for the viewer's consumption, rather to also contribute to the learning.

This site is gamified by allowing the viewers to choose which courses to view. As well, there are questions strategically placed throughout the site.  Viewers may click on questions (in red font) to be guided to a padlet where a discussion forum has been created.

 Metaphor

The kayaking metaphor evolved from one of my passions.  I am not an expert kayaker but I love how the movement along the water calms my soul, and the sport allows for challenge when I am up for something new.

The reflections of the courses taken in the MET program strategically fit into four different sections:

  1. Taking off from shore -- courses that allowed me to get my bearings and feet wet

  2. Coasting Along -- feeling comfortable in the program and pushing my endurance

  3. Hitting Currents -- this was a challenging term of courses, as my soul was feeling fatigued and various currents were pushing against me

  4. Heading home -- the coastline was in sight and I just had to paddle through these courses to reach shore.
